ChesPenn in the Community: Vaxx to School

August 27, 2021

The beginning of the 2021-2022 school year is starting soon, and we couldn’t be more excited! So many students and parents are ready to have a sense of “normalcy” back in their lives. But a major wrench could be thrown into those plans with the surge in COVID-19 cases from the Delta variant.

That is why ChesPenn and the Chester Upland School District have partnered with the City of Chester, Keystone First, the Widener University Nursing Department, and the Medical Society of Eastern Pennsylvania to provide COVID-19 vaccine clinics throughout the Chester community.

These clinics provide the FDA-approved Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine at no cost to you for individuals ages 12 and up (with parental consent for those under the age of 18). The Pfizer vaccine has been available for use since December 11, 2020 for individuals 16 and older. Individuals ages 12-15 were given permission to receive the Pfizer vaccine on May 10, 2021.

No appointment is needed. Healthcare professionals will be onsite to help answer any questions you may have.

The COVID-19 vaccine is an important tool to getting us back to a “normal” life. These vaccines help protect you from getting sick or severely ill from COVID by building up some protection in your body before being potentially exposed to the virus itself. While no vaccine is 100% effective, the COVID-19 vaccine can reduce the risk of getting a severe case of COVID-19 by 90% when fully vaccinated. Avoiding a severe case of COVID means there may not be a need to go to the hospital.

But even with all of this information about the vaccine available from the CDC and the FDA, lots of people still have questions and concerns. And that’s okay! Your best option is to talk to your doctor or healthcare professional about those questions and concerns. They are a valuable resource to have in your corner.

The more we protect ourselves, the more we can protect our communities and get ourselves back to the way things were before the pandemic.
